The November 2016 presidential election left many in our community reeling. When Stephanie Gomes heard that Ezra Levin and Leah Greenberg were launching a new national grassroots movement called "Indivisible," a seed was planted here at home. By early 2017, Vallejo-Benicia Indivisible was officially formed.
What began as a steering committee of just four people meeting in a living room has since grown into a dedicated leadership team of twelve. Over the past nine years, our membership has expanded to more than 1,000 people, and our digital presence has grown from a simple Facebook page to include Instagram and a dedicated website.
While things were quieter during the height of the pandemic and the early Biden-Harris years, the 2024 election cycle brought a renewed sense of urgency. Over the past year, Vallejo-Benicia Indivisible has hit the ground running—organizing three "No Kings" events, hosting a Labor Day rally, and standing in solidarity with movements for justice. From our "Good Trouble" event last summer to our ongoing local advocacy, we continue to work together to protect our democracy and make our voices heard.
